Dorothy Goines, 75, of Atlanta, Georgia entered into rest on November 8, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

Dorothy was born on November 27, 1949 to Lee Annie and R.E. Goines, Sr. in Champaign, Illinois, one of their nine children. After Dorothy graduated from Central High School, she completed a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's of Guidance and Counseling degree at Eastern Illinois University
After graduation, she served as a Social Worker for many years with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). She was passionate about reuniting families, and loved what she did for a living.
The true loves of Dorothy's life are God and her family, in particular her two sons, Richard Eugene Dumas (Lissa) Goines and Darin (Keyonna) Goines, who together blessed her with 13 grandchildren: Terryn, Richard, Joseph, Anniah, Darin, Samiah, James, Isaac, Faith, Siayanna, Kendrick, Zaire and Zhuri.
Following in her parents' footsteps, Dorothy maintained a lifelong commitment to senior citizen concerns, civic causes, education, and children and families. Throughout life, Dorothy took time to pursue her love of crossword puzzles, bowling, bingo and board games.
Diagnosed in 2004 with Sarcoidosis, Dorothy published her book, Sarcoidosis: What You Don't Know Could Kill You, determined that others learn from her own difficult journey.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Lee Annie and R.E. Goines Sr., and five siblings: Henry L. Goines, Judy Davis, R.E. Goines Jr., Joseph Goines Sr., and Dr. Jeanette Goines Osler. She is survived by three siblings: Dr. Beulah Goines Lateef, Dr. Sennie Smith, and Richard Goines; her in-laws: Christine (R.E., Jr.) Goines, Catherine (Joseph, Sr.) Goines, and Jasper (Jeanette) Osler, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held at Anthony Watkins Funeral Home on Friday, November 22. Public viewing at 10:00 AM and Homegoing Celebration at 11:00 AM. Donations and cards can be sent to Anthony Watkins Funeral Home, 163 North Ave, Jonesboro, GA 30236, in care of Reanna Osler.
