Essie Williams, age 89, of Fairburn, Georgia entered into rest on October 16, 2020.
Essie Bell Williams, daughter of the late Ruben Kale Williams and Estella Gosa Williams was born August 10, 1931 in Greenwood, Mississippi.
At the age of thirteen years old Ms. Williams and her family moved to Detroit, Michigan. She was the baby girl and second youngest of eight siblings. She attended the public schools of Leflore County in Mississippi in her early childhood and Detroit public schools in her later years. She was blessed with three beautiful daughters. After high school Ms. Williams worked diligently for Chrysler where she retired.
Ms. Williams was an avid reader of mystery and romance novels. She was a great storyteller; a walking history book. She also loved to cook, bake and make crafts. She was a creator. If you had a meal or dessert from her you had a piece of heaven. Let’s not forget she was always ready for a good time with family & friends and most definitely a good card game of Bid Whist. She didn't drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes but if she puts on one of her brothers’ hats, places an unlit cigarette in the corner of her mouth and poured herself a glass of beer that she never drank you may want to think twice about playing against her. It’s going to be a long night for her but a short night for her opponent. She always looked the part. She was honest and fair; southern charmed and city approved. She was the "Belle of the Ball". She believed in community and doing the right thing. She had an open door policy. As a result of her generous spirit and unforgettable personality, she was loved by many. She lived life her way. Her wisdom and influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life Friday, October 16, 2020 at home surrounded by family in Jonesboro, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, four brothers, three sisters, four nephews and seven nieces.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her surviving children: Victoria Williams (Yonkers, NY), Iris Watts (Jonesboro, GA); five grandchildren: Sonya Slaton (Atlanta, GA), India Watts, (Austell, GA), Inesha Watts (Austell, GA), Carlos Williams ( Detroit, MI), Emanuel Williams ( Yonkers, NY); one great grand-daughter: Parker Mosely (Austell, GA); a host of devoted family and friends.
There will be a memorial held Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 12pm - 3pm at Watkins Funeral Home located at 163 North Ave, Jonesboro, GA 30236. A private repass to follow.
